Reduction of Cefovecin use in practice

In this award-winning case example, the team at Gower Veterinary Surgery carried out an audit to reduce cefovecin use. Initial data suggested the drug was being used frequently and not always in the most appropriate way. The team created and implemented new prescribing guidance to encourage responsible prescribing, which led to an 83% reduction in use.

The team were named champions in the 2025 RCVS Knowledge Awards for this project.
