The Quarterly Journal of Veterinary Science in India and Army Animal Management was co-founded by John Henry Steel and Frederick Smith to ‘advance the science of army animal management’ and as a means of recording veterinary progress in India. A specimen issue was published in 1882, with the first ‘proper’ issue following in 1883. Smith resigned the co-editorship in 1887, in October 1890 Steel announced that the journal would close in December 1890.
