About Julie
Julie’s role is part of the UKRI Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme, in collaboration with the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science and Nottingham University Business School.
Julie’s work focuses on developing and implementing an evidence‑based quality improvement model for the veterinary sector, initially within farm practice, with a view to wider application. Her work aims to transform veterinary care by improving outcomes, supporting teams, and enabling more efficient, resilient, and sustainable veterinary practice.
Julie is a veterinary surgeon with over 30 years of experience spanning government, clinical practice, and veterinary education. She trained at the University of Bristol, where she also completed an intercalated degree in Zoology, building a strong foundation in both animal health and scientific inquiry.
After spending over a decade in mixed and companion animal practice, Julie saw firsthand how quality improvement approaches could enhance clinical outcomes, team performance, and patient care. This experience shaped her career direction and sparked a long‑standing commitment to embedding evidence‑based improvement into everyday veterinary work.
Julie went on to work as Veterinary Development Manager for a large corporate group, supporting veterinary teams across all species focussing on both clinical and non-clinical aspects (communication and business skills). In this role, she collaborated closely with Clinical Boards to design and deliver impactful training and development initiatives, helping practices translate strategy into measurable improvements.
In November 2025, Julie was awarded an MSc in Sustainability and Behaviour Change (with distinction) from Liverpool John Moores University, delivered in association with the Centre for Alternative Technology. This postgraduate study deepened her expertise in systems thinking, sustainable practice, and the human factors that underpin meaningful change. She currently volunteers with two CiCs, Vet Sustain and Human Behaviour Change for Life.
