A few months after a successful surgery, a Chihuahua looses her appetite and becomes lethargic. Investigations revealed a retained surgical swab in the abdomen, which was surgically removed and the patient made a full recovery. This was noted as a significant event and the team conducted a significant event audit. The outcome of this was to introduce a surgical safety checklist. Read the full case study to find out more.
